The National Zoo
We are having a great time with our friends in the DC area. They are being so generous to share their home with our brood. Thank you Jason and Katie (and of course Caleb and Beth too!)! We spent four hours in 90 plus degree heat at the National Zoo this week. It was awesome! We didn’t make it to all the animals as this zoo is insanely big and spread out but we got to see a great show by some orangutans. They can even cross over from one outdoor exhibit to another by climbing up a tower and then swinging hand-over-hand above zoogoers heads to another outdoor exhibit. A lady standing next to me thought one of them had escaped but calmed down quickly when she realized she was the only one freaking out. Jon just uploaded a video of this on his blog.
The zoo trip was full of all kinds of excitement… some good excitement, some scary excitement. Hope and I got police escorted, siren and all, from the elephants to the first aid station all the way at the back of the zoo. Why? Well, let’s just say I am not going to be nominated for any Mother-of-the-Year Award. I had unbucked Hope from her stroller so I could change her diaper. I had not laid her back yet so she was still sitting up when I took one step behind the stroller to grab a clean diaper. While I stepped back, she lunged forward and fell face-first onto the concrete! She was not the only one screaming… I kinda freaked out. The first aid worker was super nice and after the police officer scared me into thinking that she was going to call an ambulance, he assured me that Hope was fine and just cleaned her up. Thank you, Jesus for protecting my little girl. Status update on Hope: She is doing great! No worries!

Glad that you guys had a great trip (minus the incident at the zoo)!!!
That is a great zoo!
Annie is the best sleeper! She never fails to make me smile when I see a picture of her crazy sleeping!
so glad you all have had a great time. sweet hope, i’m glad she’s ok…what a trooper.
we had a great time! can’t wait to visit k-town.
Oh Katie….having boys, you just don’t know how often that happens. Baker plays so rough and falls all the time. I feel like a guilty mom all the time. I just can’t get to him in time and have not put it in my brain to just expect that he is going to fall and watch him more carefully! Loved your mud puddle pic too. Baker would be rollin in it. Oh….maybe the Lord will give me a girl one day so I can have some sanity! ha, ha.
